Buffalo Springfield is the eponymous debut album by the folk rock band Buffalo Springfield, released in December 1966 on Atco Records. It peaked at on the Billboard Top Pop Albums chart. Buffalo Springfield were formed in early 1966, playing their first gig at The Troubadour club in Hollywood in April of that year.
Buffalo Springfield is a career retrospective album by the 1960s folk rock band of the same name, released in 2001. Of the four CDs, the first three represent the actual box set while the fourth CD contains the band's first two albums, all but two tracks of which had already appeared in identical versions elsewhere on the first three CDs. It reached on Billboard's Top 200 Album chart, and stayed on the chart for the single week. It also lacks the long version of "Bluebird", only ever issued on the band's self-titled 2-LP compilation, Buffalo Springfield, released in 1973.
BLUEBIRD (Bassline) As recorded by Buffalo Springfield (From the 1967 Album BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD AGAIN). Words and Music by Stephen Stills Transcribed by Slowhand. Gtr I (D A D G) - 'Bruce Palmer - Bass Guitar w/ Drop D Tuning - DADG'. Listen to my bluebird laugh. She can't tell you why. Deep within her heart, you see, She knows only crying.
Album might have been even better than the first, with Bluebird; Broken Arrow, and Rock 'n' Roll Woman among the classics. Here's where Stephen Stills and Neil Young's on-and-off partnership fell apart for the first time. The liner notes to BS's debut album had announced, "Steve is the leader, but we all are" and described Neil Young as "hot and cold," which in retrospect seems like a warning. Young appears to have at least one foot out the door already, the ambitious "Broken Arrow" and "Expecting to Fly" clearly.
Album · 1969 · 12 Songs. Of course they barely lasted two tempestuous years: Buffalo Springfield were born to ignite a movement and then explode. The smoke had hardly cleared when this compilation was released in 1969, and these songs are testament to both the band's lasting impact on folk rock and their brilliance as songwriters and players. To wit: Stephen Stills and Neil Young's dueling guitars on the epic bluegrass psychedelia of "Bluebird. Young's heart-shattering, multi-movement "Broken Arrow" is equally grand, and "For What It's Worth" is a forever classic
