Band of Susans was an American alternative rock band formed in New York City in 1986 and active until 1996. It originally consisted of Robert Poss (guitar/vocals), Susan Stenger (bass/vocals), Ron Spitzer (drums), with Susan Lyall (guitar), Susan Tallman (guitar), and Alva Rogers (vocals). The band would undergo several permutations over the years, usually involving three guitarists. Poss, Stenger, and Spitzer were the band's core members throughout its duration.
Veil is the fourth studio album by American noise rock band Band of Susans. After establishing their "classic-line up" with their previous album The Word and the Flesh (1991), and recording the EP Now (1992), the band aimed for a new, more sonic and experimental direction on Veil, after the more song-centirc approach to The Word and the Flesh. Recording the album in early 1993, Veil shows the band expand the margins of their sound with a more experimental approach.
Whereas the last album was focused on songcraft, here the compositions reign. The band is no longer content to let the guitars drone with feral ferocity, instead exploring greater use of dynamics, dissonance, and interplay. Far more experimental in approach than their previous albums, the rewards are revealed with repeated listening as the complexity of the songs' interior structures becomes more transparent.

The Peel Sessions is an EP by Band of Susans, recorded in 1988 and 1989 from sessions with John Peel but not released until 1992. The first four tracks feature the same line-up as Love Agenda (with the latterly relatively famous Page Hamilton as one of the guitarists) but the latter two feature a line-up that never recorded any other material. Child of the Moon" (a Rolling Stones cover) and "Which Dream Came True" had been on Love Agenda whilst "Throne of Blood" and "Hope Against Hope" were on the debut

On Veil, their fifth album, Band of Susans deliver the songs as well as the sound. Tunes like "Mood Swing," "Not in This Life," "Trouble Spot" and the sublime "Blind" unfurl sharp, bold melodies over stick-in-your-head ensemble riffs. Ron Spitzer's drums kick and snap, and Stenger's bass lines provide melodic as well as rhythmic backbone.
