Emmerich Kálmán (24 October 1882 – 30 October 1953) was a Hungarian composer of operettas. Kálmán was born Imre Koppstein in Siófok, then in Austria-Hungary, on the southern shore of Lake Balaton, to a Jewish family. Kálmán initially intended to become a concert pianist, but because of early-onset arthritis, he focused on composition instead

Album including Album cover Booklet (PDF). Formats & Prices. The Gypsy Princess was Emmerich Kálmán greatest success, a work written in 1915 and describing a world that within a few years would be obliterated by the First World War. It tells of events around the Orpheum Cabaret Theatre and the complicated love-life of Sylva Varescu, the star of the theatre. The music is delightful, Bonynge is in his element and Yvonne Kenny is superb in the title-role.
