Lori Carson (born March 2, 1958) is a singer/songwriter whose albums include Shelter (DGC-Geffen, 1990), Where it Goes, Everything I Touch Runs Wild (Restless Records, 1995, 1997) and Another Year (Blue Kitchen/United for Opportunity, 2012). A former member of the seminal band The Golden Palominos, she has contributed to soundtracks including Bernardo Bertolucci's Stealing Beauty, Kathryn Bigelow's Strange Days, and Keith Gordon's Waking the Dead.
In fact, Carson's "Down Here" (the lead track on her debut album) sounds suspiciously like a rewrite of the Crows' "Round Here" (the lead track on their debut album). Song titles like "Twisting My Words" and "Fell Into the Loneliness" pretty much tell you what to expect, but when Carson wraps her lovely voice around a lyric as affecting as that in "You Won't Fall," the effect is irresistible
Lori Carson has always approached her music from the standpoint of telling the truth as she sees and hears it at the moment. No matter how that music has subsequently been judged either by critics, the public, or the artist herself, this fundamental element has been consistent. Carson has never made music in a vacuum it's true, but neither has she made music with an ear or an eye for the marketplace. On these ten songs, Carson discusses the tentative hope that happiness, a fleeting gamble anyway, may indeed be present every day if only for a few moments. She acknowledges the important part brokenness plays in the making of a life, and especially in the life that makes art and a life with someone.
The Toreador Song is the popular name for the aria "Votre toast, je peux vous le rendre" ("Your toast, I can return it to you"), from the opera Carmen, composed by Georges Bizet to a libretto by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy. It is sung by the bullfighter (French: toréador) Escamillo as he enters in act 2 and describes various situations in the bullring, the cheering of the crowds and the fame that comes with victory
