David Bowie is the second studio album by the English musician David Bowie, released under that title by Philips in the UK, and as Man of Words/Man of Music by Mercury in the US, on 14 November 1969. It was reissued in 1972 by RCA Records as Space Oddity (the title of the opening track, which had reached No. 5 in the UK Singles Chart). Space Oddity was the name used for CD releases of the album in 1984, 1990 and 1999, but it reverted to the original, eponymous title for 2009 and 2015 reissues.

David Bowie is the self-titled debut studio album by English musician David Bowie, released on 1 June 1967, on Deram Records. Its content bears little overt resemblance to the type of music that later made him famous, such as the folk rock of "Space Oddity" or the glam rock of The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.

Bowie had been battling cancer for six months when he entered Magic Shop’s expansive studio facilities in January 2015 to record his 25th album. The studio, which has also been used by Coldplay and Arcade Fire, was already known to him; he had recorded much of his previous album The Next Day there. But instead of rock musicians, he brought seven demos to progressive jazz saxophonist Donny McCaslin.
David Bowie is not like other men. There are those eyes, for starters: so like an alien, he was an obvious choice to play the lead in The Man Who Fell to Earth from the first moment he transfixed director Nicolas Roeg with that asymmetrical stare. Less flippantly, there's the way he's treated pop music as a platform for role-playing, in terms of both music and character. Turning 69 today, David Bowie has made the most extreme album of his career. Friday 8 January 2016 10:12.
David Bowie both does and does not exist. Bowie’s fifth album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, released in 1972, helped shape the then soft clay of rock ‘n’ roll, and created the transforming offshoot known as Glam Rock. Over the following decades, Bowie reincarnated his image more times than an enlightened Indian Brahma. And never got boring.
David Bowie might have made some of the most influential music ever, but what’s truly impressive is his willingness to experiment and try new things. Image caption David Bowie: One of the defining artists of his generation. It's one year since music legend David Bowie died of cancer. The musician died two days after his 69th birthday, having kept his illness hidden from everyone except his family and closest collaborators. The album's artwork, which presents a single black star on a white background, is also loaded with symbolism. I thought, 'God, I could have done with that money'. And so I wrote Life on Mars, which was sort of a Sinatra-ish parody, but done in a more rock style.
David Bowie was halfway through writing a concept album about George Orwell's classic novel 1984 when he ran into a tiny snag: Orwell's estate denied him the rights to the book. Rather than start from scratch, Bowie opted to put some of the songs on a more traditional glam rock album. Diamond Dogs is a farewell to the already fading glam scene. On the cover, Bowie still has his Ziggy hair, but he's already morphing into some other creature.
