The original Contempo releases of the self-titled "UltraFunk" and "Meat Heat" LPs are rather difficult to find on the second-hand market and generally fairly expensive if in good condition. Ultrafunk’s debut, a groovy instrumental (for they primarily were an instrumental band) version of Stevie Wonder’s Living In The City, was the first record on the newly launched Contempo label too. Though not a hit, it made more than enough of an impact for second single Gotham City Boogie and a self-titled debut album to be issued. But perhaps their third 7 incher was the one most fondly remembered, Kung Fu Man. The Kung Fu Man single deviated from the normal instrumental path that Ultrafunk took and the incredible Freddie Mack AKA Mr Superbad provided the vocals.
The Ultrafunk self-titled album kicked off with ‘Kung Fu Man’ that featured the vocals of Mr. Superbad himself Freddie Mack, the face and voice of the Superbad compilation series. This unique package brings you the full-length album version, plus the 7″ version and instrumental version as bonus tracks. Also featured on the album are ‘Sting Your Jaws’ Part One and Two. Meat Heat featured another club classic in ‘Gotham City Boogie’, plus ‘Sunrise’ from the movie Car Wash. Ultrafunk – Sweet . 4:27 (914 kbps, 2. 6 MB).
