Werner Frey had extended an invitation for his 80. Birthday to a solo concert in a church. This event nobody will forget soon. Werner Frey played as always without electronic loudspeakers. At the beginning one could have thought this sound of the Zither music was rather quiet. But soon, one believed to hear a whole swinging orchestra, sound of a flute, comforting mandolin, dark cello base. On his sixty-year-old zither this virtuoso knows how to reflect all kinds of moods, such as melancholy (Angel of music), tenderness (Bring him home), or mischief and wit (Master of the house).
His performance was exceptional. He is an extraordinary musician and artist who performs equally well as an ensemble musician and soloist. He has a unique ability to communicate his love and understanding of Austrian music to his listeners and our audiences where thrilled with his playing and stage presence. Werner Frey is entertaining and engaging with patrons and audiences
