Also like Sting (at least during his Police years), Topley is able to respectfully integrate touches of reggae into his music without offending the listener (particularly evident in "Kingston Morning" and "Ten Ten"). Topley's rich baritone is also well suited to classic American soul, which he uses as a frequent touchstone. He shows some real chops on "Cold Hard Road" - which has a genuine Deep Soul feel vibe (à la Otis Redding) - while "I Am the Man" is a nice fusion of reggae and '60s soul. Quixotic is the debut album by English singer-songwriter Martina Topley-Bird. The album spans several musical styles including trip-hop, electronic and rock. Quixotic also includes a collaboration with musician Tricky, with whom Topley-Bird collaborated prior to her solo work.

William Topley is a deep-voiced British vocalist with heady literary influences and a taste for the bluesy sound of America's Deep South, as well as the Caribbean rhythms of Jamaican reggae. The leader of the Blessing for two early-'90s albums, Topley earned several fans in the American music industry, including MCA executive Luke Lewis. After Lewis became the president of Mercury Nashville, he signed Topley to a recording contract. A year later, Topley toyed around with the folk aesthetic and signature loops of Americana for Spanish Wells. The new millennium, however, proved to be Topley's time of rediscovery. Not one to totally stick with what always works, Topley continued his musical experiments, playing with reggae and Cuban sounds inside his deepest songwriting yet for Feasting with Panthers (Lost Highway) in early 2002.

William Topley is a British musician. He was the lead singer of the band The Blessing in the early 1990s, releasing two albums before breaking up. He was signed as a solo artist by Mercury Nashville after Luke Lewis, who had worked at The Blessing's label MCA, became president of Mercury.
