You Can't Do That on Stage Anymore, Vol. 1 is a double disc live album by Frank Zappa. It was released in 1988 (see 1988 in music) under the label Rykodisc. It was the beginning of a six-volume, 12-CD set Zappa assembled of live performances throughout his career.
The album was released through Barking Pumpkin/Zappa Records in April 1988 on double vinyl and cassette tape. As of now (August 2014) it has not yet been released on CD. The album features 12 tracks that would later appear on the "You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore Vol. 1-4" live albums. You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore Vol. 5 and 6" are not represented on this release. 5 and 6" are not represented on this release
Published worldwide by Munchkin Music ASCAP (Except D3; Published by Frank Zappa Music BMI). Track A1: Recorded February 13, 1969 at The Factory, New York, on Uher 7 1/2 ips 2 track tape. Track A2: Recorded March 1977 at Hemmerleinhalle, Nurnberg, Germany, on 4 track tape, Scully remote facility. Track B1: Recorded February 1974 in Helsinki, Finland, on 16 track tape. For the fifth volume in the You Can't Do That on Stage Anymore series, Frank Zappa prepared two unrelated discs. Disc one features the original Mothers of Invention in unreleased live and studio recordings mainly from 1969 (but also one from 1965 and a couple from 1967-1968). Disc two documents the 1982 European tour. There is something wicked - almost obscene - in this pairing, and it surely was intentional
