Made in America" is a song by American hip hop recording artists Kanye West and Jay Z, from their collaborative album Watch the Throne (2011). It is the eleventh track on the album and features vocals from OFWGKTA singer Frank Ocean. Lyrically, the song explores themes of family life and the American Dream.
Jay-Z has addressed his feud with protégé Kanye West. On the track What’s Free off Meek Mill’s album Championships that dropped Friday, his first since being released from prison on what many feel were trumped-up charges, Hov spits a few lines aimed directly at the (former?) die-hard Trump supporter West: No red hat, don’t Michael and Prince me and Ye, They separate you when you got Michael and Prince’s DNA, I ain’t one of these house n ggas you bought, My house like a resort, my house bigger than yours, My spo-c’mon, man-my route better of course. The feud between Jay and Ye actually.
And yet for Jay-Z and Kanye West, this could actually be viewed as a relatively minor album. The album comes hot on the heels of career-landmark albums from both artists, but the few months they spent recording it on multiple continents were practically vacations compared to the way they usually work. Kanye's opus My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, still less than a year old, won across-the-board critical raves for its lush, prog-rap expansiveness; to create it, Kanye sequestered himself in Hawaii and flew in an endless stream of creative-peak collaborators
Its best moments are among the most vital rap music released in 2011. Its worst moments sound like resuscitated discards from Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. The lowest point is Lift Off, a bombastic mess; West’s stillborn, sung vocal clashes against a triumphant hook from Beyoncé, while the behind-the-scenes cast, including West, Jeff Bhasker, Mike Dean, Q-Tip, Pharrell, Don Jazzy, and the duo LMFAO, overcook a regal and rugged, yet ultimately muddled, production - one that also features the voices of Seal and Mr. Hudson. All of the highlight tracks come with caveats.
