Irresistible Bliss was Soul Coughing's second studio album, released in 1996. The band initially planned for Tchad Blake, producer of their first album Ruby Vroom, to produce the album, but the death of a family member in a car accident caused Blake to take a hiatus. Over the objections of his bandmates and his record label, Slash Records/Warner Bros.

Soul Coughing's second album, Irresistible Bliss, finds the band cutting away some of their eccentricities, leaving behind the bare basics of their pseudo-bohemian fusion of jazz, hip-hop, performance art, and alternative rock. Though some engagingly quirky, off-center avant-pop remains, there are no jarring juxtapositions as satisfying as those that dominated Ruby Vroom, with its melded samples of Howlin' Wolf and the Andrews Sisters
On their second offering, 1996’s Irresistible Bliss the flair for the outlandish is still present, though it seems pretty watered down on several tracks, perhaps an attempt at reaching a wider audience. Indeed, from the get go the bands oddness stands out, starting heavy on the opener and carrying on that motif throughout the disc
