Bob Dylan is the debut studio album by American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, released on March 19, 1962 by Columbia Records. Produced by Columbia's legendary talent scout John H. Hammond, who signed Dylan to the label, the album features folk standards, plus two original compositions, "Talkin' New York" and "Song to Woody".
The music remained a constant surprise and delight; it continually transfixed and influenced us, as the Beatles’ work and presence intensified our lives. In short, the Beatles were a rupture - they changed modern history, and no less a craftsman than Bob Dylan understood the meaning of their advent. They were doing things nobody else was doing, he later told his biographer Anthony Scaduto. Combined, the Beatles and Dylan had a seismic effect on popular music and youth culture. They changed the soundscape and ambition of rock & roll in thorough and irrevocable ways that, a quarter-century later, still carry tremendous influence. They also had a sizable impact on each other. This meant that rock’s consensus of joy and opportunity was finished, and its most significant components came apart quickly.
Bob Dylan returned to the road in August. Over the past couple of years he started bringing more never played or rarely played songs into the set, as well as an increasing amount of folk, blues and bluegrass songs. Among the never played songs was "Blind Willie McTell," and I kept going to shows until I finally saw it at Wolf Trap. Some music he dived into deeply, most notably The Stanley Brothers and the country duo, Johnny and Jack. You never knew when or where a new song would appear. It could be in Portugal, it could be in Wilmington. What was clear was that Dylan was not just performing, he was exploring and in doing so exposing his audience to all kinds of music they might not have known about. This is something that Bob Dylan has done not only during the 18 years this album covers, but for his entire career.

There was nothing surreal about these songs, as was the nature of Blonde On Blonde, the sound was stripped down, straight forward and supported Bob’s need for the simpler things as he was recovering from his motorcycle accident. I don’t play this album often, it’s like the hundred dollar bill I have tucked in the brim of my cowgirl hat, I just have this sense of peace knowing it’s there. same with this release, I' happy just knowing it’s part of my collection. However, we’ve barely scratched the surface; to avoid making this just a list of Beatles and Bob Dylan records, we’ve limited it to three albums per artist-which means some incredible works like Rubber Soul, The White Album and Bringing It All Back Home, while highly recommended by us, had to get bumped this time. There is very little complexity or lofty metaphor use at play here, but it’s a winning album because despite the simplicity (sometimes overly so), the earnestness is impossible to ignore. It’s easy to picture a field full of long-haired hippies smoking and swaying their limbs just to feel the basic joy in movement.

Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin, Albert Ayler, the Velvet Underground, Eric Dolphy, Dusty Springfield, and the other artists who changed music forever. Still, there’s no getting around the fact that the music of the ’60s made a huge impact at the time and never really went away. But it’s the polyphonic sense of play in the group’s improvisations, particularly in Cannonball’s solos, that lends the session its aura of excitability and invention.
