The Grateful Dead is the debut album of the Grateful Dead. It was released by Warner Bros. Records in March 1967. According to the biographies of both bassist Phil Lesh and drummer Bill Kreutzmann, the band released the album as San Francisco's Grateful Dead. The album was primarily recorded at RCA's Studio A, in Los Angeles, in only four days. The band had wanted to record the tracks in their hometown of San Francisco, but no recording studios in the area had modernized equipment at the time

The line, "Busted, down on Bourbon Street" refers to an incident on January 31, 1970 when members of the band were arrested in a drug bust that netted 19 people in New Orleans. Barb from Virginia Beach, VaDwight Yoakam did a twangy cover of this song on the 1991 Grateful Dead tribute album called Deadicated. from Baltimore, MdOkay, as someone admittedly ignorant of most Dead music, I have the following question: is Garcia the singer of the verses? Whoever it is, his vocals seem like a direct imitation of Chuck Berry.

Grateful Dead (album). This article is about the band's 1971 eponymous live album. For their 1967 self-titled studio debut, see The Grateful Dead (album). Grateful Dead is an album by rock band the Grateful Dead. Released in October 1971 on Warner Bros. Records, it is their second live double album. Although published without a title, it is generally known by the names Skull and Roses (due to its iconic cover art) and Skull Fuck (the name the band originally wanted to give to the album, which was rejected by the record company). It was the group's first album to be certified gold by the RIAA and remained their best seller until surpassed by Skeletons from the Closet. However, the version from this album was later used as a B-side on the re-release of the "Truckin'" single. Look up mind-blowing in Wiktionary, the free dictionary.
