Megamix Platform 23 launches with the reissue of the seminal Alternative Funk compilation series, presenting a selection of music across 2 volumes. Known for the highly heralded Folie Distinguée album in 1985, what is often over looked is the fact there accompanied 2 further Alternative Funk cassette compilations that same year. Coming within the Audiologie series on Vox Man Records, these Various Artist selections were indicative of labels that sprung up in the early 80s around the DIY post-punk scene.
The album is Parliament‘s first album in 38 years since 1980’s Trombipulation and it’s packed with over 100 minutes of music. It features an amazing horn section showcasing Greg Thomas, Bennie Cowan, Whitney Russell, Fred Wesley, and Pee Wee Ellis. Philthy is a true blue funk project that is solely about the funk bounce and relentlessly curb stomps the funk into your skull with full on head bounce tracks.
7 Days of Funk is the eponymous debut studio album by California-based funk duo 7 Days of Funk, consisting of rapper Snoop Dogg-performing under his funk persona Snoopzilla-and modern-funk musician Dâm-Funk. The album was released on December 10, 2013 by Stones Throw Records and is Snoop's first project with a single producer since his landmark 1993 debut album, Doggystyle
Nu funk is riddled with label compilations but very few albums that reach further than in house output. Big props to both Pimpsoul and Bombstrikes. Funk N' Beats Volume One (Unmixed Tracks & Pimpsoul DJ mix). Not only is this a fantastic showcase of Pimpsoul's mixing ability, DJ dynamics and selection skills, but, as individual tracks, Funk N Beats Volume 1 also acts as a great nu-funk collection. Joining the dots between formative genre-setters (Breakestra's "Cramp Your Style" and Skeewiff's "Feelin' Fine") to modern day dancefloor bangers (Rory Lyon's "I Got 5 On It" and Mr No Hands' "Feeling Fine") this touches every corner of the party-loving dancefloors
