The best songs are his tender ballads and naughty love songs: "Je Reviens Chez Nous" (with surprising Greek overtones), "Si Je Savais Parler aux Femmes" ("If I knew how to talk to women," says the man whose wife left him), and "Marie-Claire" (a precocious girl). On the other hand, Ferland also tries to break out of the mold and proposes interesting experiments that can be seen as the premises of his seminal album Jaune. Je le Sais" alternates between sweet and sour moods represented by 3/4 and 2/2 time signatures.

Jean-Pierre Ferland is one of the great singer/songwriter Quebec has produced, second only to Félix Leclerc and Gilles Vigneault. First a singer/songwriter in the French tradition of Léo Ferré and Georges Moustaki, he turned to art pop/rock in the early '70s, releasing his most-acclaimed albums (Jaune, 1970; Soleil, 1971). His eighth record, eponymous, contained the song "Je Reviens Chez Nous," one of the classics of the French-speaking world. Yet, something was wrong. A youngster, Robert Charlebois, who had started as a folk singer and admitted being at first inspired by Ferland, had just broke free and turned into a psychedelic rocker. Ferland toured for the next four years with the acoustic quartet that recorded this album.
