John Robert Cocker OBE (20 May 1944 – 22 December 2014), better known as Joe Cocker, was an English singer. He was known for his gritty voice, spasmodic body movement in performance, and distinctive versions of popular songs of varying genres. Cocker's recording of the Beatles' "With a Little Help from My Friends" reached number one in the UK in 1968

It features hit singles "You Can Leave Your Hat On" and "Don't You Love Me Anymore", the first made popular after its use in the famous striptease scene in the film 9 1/2 Weeks. Released as a single, Cocker's version of the song peaked at No. 35 on Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks. The album also features rendition of Marvin Gaye's "Inner City Blues", a Motown legend's classic lament to urban decay.

Joe Cocker‘s 1978 album Luxury You Can Afford included his le treatment, and the same year the song reinforced its endless versality in a disco-to-pop crossover by Munich Machine. One wonders many other compositions could then have added early 1980s versions by Bonnie Tyler and Willie Nelson. Another great vocalist to lend his talents to ‘Whiter Shade’ was Justin Hayward of the Moody Blues, who included it on his Classic Blue album with Mike Batt and the London Symphony Orchestra in 1989. Six years later, it was also a well-remembered part of Annie Lennox’s Medusa album

Procol Harum Pedigree Part One. 1967 to 1977. The Procol Harum story starts in Southend-on-Sea, UK, where several schoolfriends came together as The Paramounts. By the middle of 1963 they were ready to turn pro. and their reputations spread nationally after the Rolling Stones dubbed them the best R&B group in the country. None of their singles took off, though the Leiber-Stoller cover Poison Ivy had some success. Whoever they were, they probably rehearsed material that would end up on the first album, plus Alpha, Homburg, and In the Wee Small Hours. but seems to have left no recorded traces. It was managed by the legendary Guy Stevens.

Joe Cocker was a rock and blues singer best known for his cover versions of the songs of The Beatles. This biography of Joe Cocker provides detailed information about his childhood, life, achievements, works & timeline. This group played in pubs around Sheffield. Denny Cordell, the producer of the Procol Harum and the Moody Blues noticed the band and invited Cocker to record a single, ‘Marjorine’. In 1968, he released the single that would make him really famous. It was a cover version of the single ‘With a Little Help from My Friends’, originally performed by the Beatles. It was titled, ‘Joe Cocker!’ Following the trend of his debut album, this too contained numerous covers of songs originally performed by popular singers such as Bob Dylan, The Beatles and Leonard Cohen. John Robert "Joe" Cocker, OBE (20 May 1944 – 22 December 2014) was an English singer and musician. In early 1972, after nearly two years away from music, Cocker went on tour with a group that Chris Stainton had formed.

The Joe Cocker version was the theme song to the TV series The Wonder Years, starring Fred Savage. The show ran six seasons, from 1988-1993. When it was added to Netflix in 2011, it was with a different version of the theme song, as Cocker's version wasn't cleared. Also during the Joe Cocker sequence you can have a brief glimpse of John Densmore at the side of the stage. Roundabut1983 from Ithaca, NyCorrection: Tommy Eyre played organ on "With a little help from my friends", but was also influenced by Bach. Fisher played on Cocker's cover of Dylan's "Just Like a Woman .
