Although trumpeter Jon Eardley had been active in Europe since moving aboard in 1963, this album (other than two dates for obscure Dutch labels during 1969-70) was Eardley's first session as a leader since 1956. He contributed six of the seven selections (all but the standard "Namely Me") and shows throughout the date that his cool sound and boppish style were largely unchanged from the early days. Eardley teams up with altoist Pete King, pianist John Taylor, bassist Ron Mathewson and drummer Mickey Roker for some fine straightahead music.

Trumpeter Jon Eardley's first two sessions as a leader (he would only lead two others during the next 20 years) are combined on this reissue CD. A fine boppish player who mostly stuck to the middle register of his horn, Eardley would soon be joining Gerry Mulligan's group. He is heard on four selections heading a quartet with pianist Pete Jolly (who was just starting his career), bassist Red Mitchell, and drummer Larry Bunker, and on four other numbers with tenor saxophonist . Monterose, pianist George Syran, bassist Teddy Kotick, and drummer Nick Stabulas.
