Up up up upu p up points the Fingers of the trees The lumberjacks with their bloody axes Are on their knees. And just when you think that you've got enough Enough grows And everywhere that you go in life Enough knows. Up up up up up up dances The steam from the sewer As she rounds the corner The brutal wind blows right through her. Up up up up up up raises The stakes of the game Each day sinks its bootprint into her clay And she's not the same. She crawls out on a limb And begins to build her home And it's enough just to look around To know she's not alone. Up up up up up up points The spire of the steeple But god's work isn't done by god It's done by people. Teile diesen Songtext.
The playful synthetics and occasional stabs at atypical Ani DiFranco stylings belie the general humorlessness of her lyrics: "'Tis of Thee" is as annoyed with American TV-news culture as one can get (as might be expected of street-cynical Ani). Come Away" is just plain corny, wistfully scrapbooking a lover away with tinkly punches on an electric piano. Some fans may continue to dream of an album wherein Ani shows off some real chops, as she'll do for lucky people in concert: she's actually a wonderful 12-string guitarist, but you can't really get a feel for that here.

Unlike her earlier work, "Up Up Up Up Up Up" incorporates other different instruments other than Ani's traditional fierce guitar playing. The banjo, the organ, piano, and bass all adds a different layer of sound to Ani's music and gives her music new life. I personally love "Up Up Up Up Up Up". It is different from Ani's earlier music but I think it is still as good. I don't even remember why I chose Up Up Up Up Up Up - I think it was the cheapest there, and I didn't want to spend too much on an album I might not like. I took it home, and slipped it in while I messed around the house. Well, I wasn't real impressed.
