O Negative, Tiamat, Sisters of Mercy, and sixth album The Antidote finds the Portuguese group existing in its own unique, creative headspace. Bolstered by a thoroughly enveloping production - which carefully places lush, gothic textures into harsh, metallic realms, and vice versa - and accomplished, memorable songwriting, The Antidote is easily the group's most ambitious effort.
The Antidote is the sixth studio album by Portuguese gothic metal band Moonspell, released in 2003 by Century Media. It is regarded as a return to a heavier musical style in comparison to the previous album, Darkness and Hope, although it is nonetheless quite different from all the previous albums. The track list was altered for the vinyl version to better suit the side lengths. The third track, "Everything Invaded" had a music video.
The Antidote is Moonspell's sixth full-length album, released in 2003 by Century Media. The third track, Everything Invaded had a music video. The album was released with a (limited) book named O Antídoto (the antidote, in Portuguese) by José Luís Peixoto. Each song in the CD is sister to a chapter in the book that enhances the story in the lyrics

The Antidote (CD, Album, Unofficial). for those with the CD version, do take advantage of the CD-ROM content: accompanying the Flash application that allows you to read The Antidote sister novel by Jose Luis Peixoto is extra music that reinterprets many facets of the regular album, some of which have been used live as introductions to "In and Above Men" and "Everything Invaded.
This is my first full-length experience with MOONSPELL. I have heard a few songs before but "The Antidote" was the only album that I found in one of my local record stores (I since found a couple more), so I bought it right away and it has been my introduction to the music of this Portuguese progressive-metal band. The music of MOONSPELL is, at least on this album, not-yet fully progressive, but there are many elements that point in that direction already. The best way to describe "The Antidote" would probably be as essive metal.
The Antidote is a concept album – or rather an album with a series of concepts – of which the lyrical themes were crafted together with one of Portugal’s most promising fiction writers back in 2003: José Luis Peixoto, who simultaneously with Moonspell wrote a short-story novel ‘O Antidoto’ (the Portuguese translation for The Antidote). It is no wonder then that with his help lyrically Moonspell have never been as strong as they are on The Antidote; every individual song on this album truly has its own brilliantly written story
