Carnival Art was an American alternative rock band. Formed in Los Angeles in 1989, the band in the beginning consisted of Michael Petak (lead vocals, guitar), Shane Paul Rhody (guitar, vocals), Ed Dobrydnio (bass guitar), and Keith Fallis (drums, vocals). They released their debut album, titled Like Nobody's Business, exclusively on vinyl through their own record label Spineless Voodoo Records the same year.

Thrumdrone is the second album by alternative rock band Carnival Art, released in 1991. Thrumdrone was the first Carnival Art album to be released on noted alternative rock haven Beggars Banquet Records. It is also the full-length debut of Brian Bell, who assumed bass duties after Ed filled the void left by former guitarist Shane Paul Rhody (Bell made his overall debut on the Dig EP). This disc is often referred to as the band's debut, due to little exposure of the 1989 long player Like Nobody's Business.
More straightforwardly power-poppy and funny and much less inclined towards epic stomp than fellow city dwellers Jane's Addiction and Tool, Carnival Art on Thrumdrone lurk somewhere, conceptually speaking, close to those acts while not quite being as distinct as either. Still, there's a few goodies to be had here or there, while the album as a whole benefits from the group's fine coproduction with engineer Tracy Chisholm. Musically the quartet isn't per se fantastic, but the players all can do reasonably thrashy stuff while also serving up backing harmonies as needed.
