NASHVILLE - By now, most people have heard about Gospel singer Michael English's fall from grace. With a vocal resume that included millions of records sold, multiple Dove Awards, and seemingly no limit to the heights his career might hit, Michael lost it all. A marital affair led to a period of public shame, divorce, broken relationships, drug addiction, and even a period of homelessness. Instead of being at the pinnacle of success Michael had fallen into a dark pit of despair. But God can perform miracles. With a successful autobiography in 2007 and a new album this year ("The Prodigal Comes Home"), Michael has found himself back out on the road in 2008 sharing his testimony with thousands. CB. om Program Director Chris Carpenter recently sat down with Michael to discuss the importance of sharing his testimony, why he chose to shine a light on his troubled past, and how his wife saved his life.
His debut effort, Michael English, was well received, ultimately winning two Dove Awards in 1992 for Male Vocalist and New Artist. He left the Gaither Vocal Band in 1994. English's Christian music career abruptly came to a halt on May 6, 1994, just one week after the 24th GMA Dove Awards where he had received four Dove Awards, including Artist of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year. English learned that Marabeth Jordan, with whom he had an affair, was pregnant with his child. In addition to touring, English released his autobiography, The Prodigal Comes Home, in April 2007. In 2009, English rejoined the Gaither Vocal Band-making it a quintet-singing lead.
Nearly eight years after 2000’s HEAVEN TO EARTH, Christian singer Michael English returned with THE PRODIGAL COMES HOME, an introspective selection of spiritually minded tunes (and also the title of his ’07 autobiography). Standout tracks include the rock-tinged Sanctuary and an emotive cover of the John Hiatt classic Have a Little Faith in Me, songs that reveal English’s heart-on-the-sleeve charms.

The Prodigal Comes Home - Michael English. None of us are beyond the need or the reach of God’s grace. Michael English’s story is a profound and timely celebration of this great truth. Indeed, God’s name is Redeemer. he restores broken things and broken people. This is the heart of the gospel. I sat with Michael and looked into his eyes the day after his public exposure, and I sat with Michael recently and looked again into his eyes. God’s Story of Redemption. The prodigal comes home.

He just released a new album, The Prodigal Comes Home, via Curb. Q: This is your first studio album since 2000. Why has it been so long? Michael English: The honest reason is I didn’t want to do another record and (have) something else happen in Michael English’s life that was negative. I did the Heaven to Earth CD, and the day it came out, I was in rehab with drug addiction. I’m tired of disappointing God. I’m tired of disappointing my fans, friends and family and everyone around me.
