Sudden arrhythmic death syndrome. Sudden arrhythmic death syndrome (SADS), is a term used as part of sudden unexpected death syndrome to describe sudden death due to cardiac arrest brought on by an arrhythmia in the presence or absence of any structural heart disease on autopsy. If an arrhythmia results in a heartbeat that is too fast, too slow or too weak to supply the body's needs, this manifests as a lower blood pressure and may cause lightheadedness or dizziness, or syncope (fainting). Some types of arrhythmia result in cardiac arrest, or sudden death.

Arrhythmia vs. dysrhythmia. An arrhythmia describes an irregular heartbeat - the heart may beat too fast, too slowly, too early, or irregularly. Working together to improve the diagnosis, treatment and quality of life for all those affected by arrhythmias. Arrhythmias can be categorised in many different ways but it is common for all to be classified in two principal ways: Where in the heart the arrhythmia originates – in the upper chambers or the lower chambers. Lower chamber origin: ventricular arrhythmia. Upper chamber origin: surpraventricular origin. Whether the arrhythmia increases or decreases the heart rate. Too fast: tachycardia.
An arrhythmia is an abnormal rate and/or rhythm of the heartbeat. There are various types but all are due to some problem with the electrical conducting system of the heart. Some arrhythmias are more serious than others. Some come and go (are intermittent); others are permanent unless treated. Tachycardia means a faster heart rate than usual - more than 100 beats per minute (bpm). This test records the electrical activity of your heart when you are walking about (ambulatory) and doing your normal activities. Sometimes an ECG is taken whilst you exercise on a treadmill or bike to try to provoke symptoms which may be an intermittent arrhythmia. Other more sophisticated tests may be advised.
